Why I Created This Theme

Grief comes in many shapes — sometimes small, soft, and covered in fur. When my daughter’s kitten, Cody, passed away, the silence in her home felt deafening. He had been so full of curiosity and love, always exploring, always near. But one night, that same curiosity led him into a place he couldn’t escape. He climbed into a drawer that accidentally closed, and by morning, he was gone.

There are few losses that pierce so sharply as the unexpected loss of a pet, especially one so young. My daughter was heartbroken. My granddaughter cried until her little body shook. Even my grandsons, who had tried to be strong, finally broke down when they realized their furry playmate wasn’t coming back. There was nothing I could say to take away their pain — only love to give and something beautiful to create.

Love Remembered in Every Shade

When I asked my daughter what she wanted this memorial to feel like, she said softly, “Brown and gray — those are the colors of my grief. I’m missing him so much. I don’t think I’ll ever stop.”

That became the palette for the Missing You – Cat design. No bright colors, no loud tones — just quiet, honest hues of sorrow and remembrance. The layout came together like a whispered prayer: a tender way to say, I still love you. I still miss you. You were part of our family.

Creating Through Tears

As I designed, I thought about how grief often hides in the smallest corners — an empty window perch, a food bowl left untouched, the faint sound of a meow that lives only in memory. The Missing You – Cat program became more than a layout; it became a gentle hug for anyone who has loved and lost a precious companion.

Each page was built to hold not only words and photos but emotion — the weight of missing them, the gratitude for having loved them, and the peace that slowly comes from remembering without breaking.

The Heart Behind the Design

Cody’s passing changed how I approached pet memorials. It reminded me that love doesn’t need to be human to be eternal. Pets are family, too. They teach us unconditional affection, patience, and joy — and their absence leaves a space that only heaven can fill.

This design, in all its softness and sorrow, became a way to help others express what my daughter once said through tears: “He wasn’t just a cat. He was my comfort.”
